CHATEAU-THIERRY

In the heart of a feudal castle overlooking Chateau-Thierry, discover the reconstitution of a house from the Middle-Ages. In the barnyard of the castle, sheltered from fortifications, handcraftworkers and housemaids work in the way people in the Middle-Ages used to do. We tried to make this period live again. Discover weaving, forging, cooking and woodworking.

BELLEAU

To see close by: behind the Chapel, the wood of the Navy Brigades (trenches), watched over by a bronze soldier. NEUILLY-SAINT-FRONT

Located near the D4 road (before entering the village and coming from Ferté-Milon), this Necropolis, built after the Armistice (WWI), is the resting place of 2,072 bodies , 239 of which are in ossuaries. Here, you'll find British soldiers (18 graves), killed in 1914 (6 identified bodies) and in 1918 (1 identified). Twelve of these bodies came from two French military cemeteries which don't exist

LA FERTE-MILON

Town museum. Collections are managed by the association Jean Racine et son terroir. The museum is located down the old town, rich in ruins of the castle (14th-15th cent) and two churches. Built in 1226 for a cadet of the Kings of France, count Robert III of Dreux, known as “Gâteblé. A rare and perfect example of the military architecture of Philippe Auguste, its original layout has remained entirely intact: the enclosure, still partially surrounded by water, forms a square with 70 m long sides, flanked by 8 cylindrical towers and an exceptionally well-preserved mighty isolated keep.

MEZY-MOULINS

Building with three floors, the church from the 13th century is a jewel of early Gothic art. To be seen on the frontage: the rose with twelve foils. Come between 4pm and 5pm for optimal lighting conditions.

LA FERTE-MILON

Church from the 15th century which has one of the most beautiful windows from the 15th cent. displaying scenes of Christ's life as well as a vision of the apocalypse. These windows are dated from 1542, 1549 and 1598.

The museum offers a complete panorama of the prehistoric tools and instruments which explain the evolution of agriculture in human history. The exhibition of harvest and threshing machines completes a remarkable collection of antique tractors that have been restored to working condition, as well as a forge and a saddler workshop.
